Awakening the Wholesome
With Sharon Beckman-Brindley and Mary Burns
March 14 - 15, 2014
Our spiritual path invites us to cultivate and, indeed, to simply awaken, a deep and abiding happiness that is independent of conditions. Toward this end, wise effort not only invites us to abandon what is not wholesome, but also calls for the active support and cultivation of what is wholesome. In this retreat we will explore the Buddha’s teaching on the wholesome, learning to awaken the joy of these qualities more deeply in our busy, interpersonal lives. As we develop our own peaceful mind and learn to speak and listen from the shared human experience, we strengthen the ability to see more clearly, respond more authentically, and contribute more happily and effectively with our friends, family and community.
In this retreat, there will be silent and walking meditation along with mindful movement, interwoven with periods of structured Insight Dialogue meditation when we contemplate Buddhist teachings on awakening what is wholesome and healing. As we meditate together we will learn to recognize and rest in our own natural wakefulness and ease.
Previous meditation experience is highly desirable but not essential.
